COLUMBUS, OH—Today, Americans for Prosperity-Ohio (AFP-OH) released its ‘Buckeye Blueprint’ legislative agenda at the commencement of Ohio’s 136th General Assembly, outlining bold reforms to create a stronger, more prosperous Ohio. Focusing on delivering real results for Ohioans, the agenda focuses on three major priorities: economic freedom, school choice, and energy abundance.
The ‘Buckeye Blueprint’ is built on three pillars:
Economic Freedom
- Pass the Regulations from the Executive in Need of Scrutiny Act (REINS) Act: Redirect major rulemaking from regulatory bodies to legislative approval, ensuring greater accountability.
- Promote Truth in Taxation legislation: Increase transparency and control in property tax growth while including features that allow property taxes to increase if necessary.
- Reform public pensions: Enhance transparency, improve fund management, and modernize retirement savings options.
- Advance a 0% personal income tax: Allow Ohioans to keep more of their hard-earned income while increasing affordability and innovation.
Energy Abundance
- Repeal Ohio Valley Educational Cooperative (OVEC) subsidies: Lower energy costs that are costing consumers roughly $500k/day.
- Remove barriers to innovation: Current regulations and taxes are killing energy development projects, leading to depleted energy supplies.
- Support the “all of the above” approach: Ensure competition in the fuel sources marketplace will ultimately benefit the consumer with more affordable and reliable energy.
School Choice
- Advanced school choice in education: Maximize educational freedom and allow every child the opportunity to receive a high-quality education.
- Champion universal public school access: Give students the opportunity to thrive in their education regardless of zip code or income bracket while creating competition for a stronger-performing public school system.
- Eliminate means testing: Remove barriers in the EdChoice voucher system to ensure every child is given the opportunity to choose an education option that fits their unique needs.
AFP-OH State Director Donovan O’Neil released the following statement:
“At Americans for Prosperity, we’re committed to championing common-sense policies that advance prosperity and opportunity in Ohio. Our priorities in the Buckeye Blueprint agenda focus on the issues that matter most to Ohioans. This is more than just a policy agenda – this is a movement to engage the community, empower coalitions, and embolden policy champions to change the narrative and focus on delivering real results.
“We are eager to kick start our work at the start of the 136th General Assembly and look forward to collaborating with lawmakers to deliver change and create a better future for Ohio. We anticipate plenty of hard work ahead, but we’re committed to being a force for positive change for every Ohioan.”
