Representative Josh Williams is seeking reelection to serve Ohio House of Representatives District 44.  He embodies the resilience of the American Dream, having faced and overcome significant challenges throughout his life.  

Born and raised in inner-city Toledo, he experienced homelessness and dropped out of high school at 18. After securing a job with a railroad subcontractor, a serious fall left him disabled for six years. However, he refused to be defined by his circumstances. 

Determined to better his future, Rep. Williams fought against government barriers that threatened his benefits if he pursued education. At 30, he enrolled at the University of Toledo, graduating from law school at 35 and embarking on a career practicing law. 

 In 2022, motivated by his firsthand experiences with systemic obstacles that hinder individuals from escaping poverty, Williams ran for State Representative. Since taking office, he has focused on improving the quality of life for Ohioans by advocating for policies that dismantle these barriers and protect the vulnerable. 

As Vice Chair of the House Criminal Justice Committee, he has pushed for expungement, sentencing, and policing reforms.  

Tax Reform 

Rep. Williams stands out for his work on economic issues such as backing tax cuts and spending reform.  He advocates for a gradual reduction in income tax rates and eventually eliminating it to empower Ohioans to keep more of their hard-earned money.  

Education Freedom 

As a freshman lawmaker, he has been a passionate advocate for education policy reforms, working on major universal school choice legislation called the Backpack Bill. He believes in empowering parents and students across Ohio. 

Regulation 

Rep. Williams has and will continue to break down barriers that prevent people from reaching their full potential.  He works to reform occupational licensing regulations that make it more difficult to perform certain jobs or start new businesses.
