AFP Ohio is proud to announce its endorsement of Shawn Stevens for Ohio House District 61 in the November election.
Shawn Stevens brings a career in banking and small business to his campaign for District 61, which covers eastern Knox County and western Delaware County. A former JPMorgan Chase banker who now owns Bridge Title and Escrow Services in Westerville, Stevens previously served in the Ohio House representing the 68th District and has spent years working to elect conservative candidates as chair of the Delaware County Republican Party and a member of the Delaware County Board of Elections.
Stevens has made property tax relief his priority, and he has been outspoken in his opposition to taxpayer-funded corporate welfare that steers public dollars toward well-connected interests instead of Delaware and Knox County families. He has also championed restoring local control over development decisions.
Economic Opportunity
Stevens has made property tax relief his top campaign priority for Delaware and Knox County families, building on a career in banking and small business ownership that includes running Bridge Title and Escrow Services in Westerville. He’s unambiguous about smaller government, believing it should get out of the way and let individuals manage their own lives, businesses, churches, children’s education, and communities. He views taxpayer-funded corporate bailouts as deplorable, strongly opposes taxpayer incentives for private industry, and believes forced unionization should be illegal. He’s also flagged Ohio’s occupational licensing rules as a drag on job creation, believing too many professions require a state license, and has called for removing the state income tax entirely to put Ohio on more competitive footing.
Energy Abundance
Stevens supports letting competition, not government mandates, shape Ohio’s energy future, and counts free competition in the energy market among his top priorities for seeking office, alongside economic freedom and a reduction in state regulation.
Freedom in Education
Stevens has voiced clear support for school choice, backing measures like House Bill 290, the so-called Backpack Bill, which would let education funding follow a child to whatever school setting a parent chooses.
Modernizing Government in Ohio
Stevens’ small-government philosophy extends to how Columbus treats local taxpayers. He believes government should only step in as a last resort to solve problems individuals can’t solve on their own — policing, fire protection, roads, and constitutional rights — a standard he’s pledged to apply to property tax relief and the layers of local bureaucracy driving up Delaware and Knox County tax bills.
